They both sat with their hands on their knees..their palms supporting their chins…they looked wistful, deep in thought and a trifle sad. They had come a long way…a lovely way to their end. This was the journey they had heard their parents talk about…all that high praise!!!They couldnt wait to see the beauty described with their own eyes!!They had heard about the beauty of these places..the valleys, the mountains..the people..the rivers!!!They had heard about the lush greenery everywhere..the smiling people…the small hills…which sent them unspoken pleas..to not go away!!!But they were wanderers which were at once their boon and their curse. As they traveled…they looked at the sea below them…the sun beams reflected on the surface…..earth’s retort to the sky’s lightning!they could see the waves…those tiny swaying dance steps of the sea…they always thought that the sea was a mastani.they loved her…they loved the white birds which would fly low over the water..making it look more blue than ever…they could sometimes even see the multi-colored fishes…slithering below the crystal clear water.
they loved those lazy days..when they would sometimes rest..and look lazily at the wondrous way of existence..but then most often than not..they would travel from one picture-perfect place to another…their gypsy hearts getting restless..in steadiness!!!their happiness was in being wind-born all the time. They were almost at the shores of kerala…and the splash of green everywhere…made their hearts soar…The green pastures..the brown soil..the calmly grazing animals…the long boats…and tanned men..the coconut tress…the whole set up looked so beautiful and breath-taking!!the coconut trees swayed in the breeze ever so gently..as if they were waving a warm welcome to the guests with loving hearts…
Once they entered the mainland..they could see more colorful scenes…lines of colorful clothes hung in the wind to dry….red chillies put in the sun…rangolis in front of houses….and the sky reflected in lakes…and all those pretty women!!
As they moved towards the city..they could see the change…from picturesque simplicity to modernization. Not that cities were ugly..but they were well just different..more of scowls and less of smiles!!but everything has its own beauty…one only needs to see with the heart’s eye!they could see buildings competing to touch the sky in blue, grey or brown…those buildings seemed sad and tired..but that was only becoz they seemed so colorless when compared to sunflower fields….
what they really didnt like about the cities was all that smoke…the smoke marred their looks..and the dust made them cough incessantly..and hurt their vision.
they enjoyed racing with each other….it was fun to be carried by their sweetheart, the wind.
but now…their time had come…they had only so much life to live…they had to forget about wild races, flirting with the mountains…and they would never get to see the sunflowers in the sun…they had to rain down …but what these clouds lacked was foresight..they didnt know that when the came showering down…their love could touch the gentle sunflower petals…or slide down the rosy cheeks of lovely young women!!!
